What I’m Learning About Habits Right Now - Badass Habits

I’m currently reading Badass Habits, and I wanted to share a few gems that stood out from the first chapter—because they didn’t just feel like information… they felt like reminders.

Reminders about how we actually change.
Not in theory.
Not overnight.
But in practice.
In repetition.
In the small things we do when no one is watching.

And as I was reading, I couldn’t help but connect it back to something deeper—yoga.

Because yoga has been saying this all along.

You Don’t Have Habits… Your Habits Have You

Your habits are shaping your identity every single day.

Not the big breakthrough moments.
Not the rare motivated days.

But the repeated ones.

The automatic ones.
The unconscious ones.
The ones that quietly build your life in the background.

That’s where identity is formed.

Yoga Calls This Abhyasa

In yoga philosophy, there’s a word: Abhyasa — steady, consistent practice.

Not intense.
Not perfect.
Not all or nothing.

Just returning.

Returning to the breath.
Returning to awareness.
Returning to presence.

You don’t become something in one moment.
You become it through repetition.

The Body Learns What You Repeat

Your nervous system is always practicing something.

Reacting or responding.
Avoiding or engaging.
Distraction or presence.

Even when you’re not aware of it, your body is learning you.

That’s why habits matter more than motivation.

Motivation fades.
Repetition rewires.

The Soul Fitted Reflection

Change isn’t about becoming a different person overnight.

It’s about what you repeat daily.

So instead of asking:
“What do I want to change?”

Ask:
“What am I currently practicing?”

Because what you practice… becomes who you are.

Discipline Isn’t Punishment — It’s Alignment

Discipline isn’t forcing yourself into suffering.

It’s choosing alignment over impulse.

Every moment is shaping your future self.

You are always in practice.

Closing Reflection

You don’t transform your life in a single breakthrough.

You transform it in repetition.

In what you return to.
In what you choose again.
In what you practice becoming.

888 — what you repeat becomes who you are.
